Good RFID News

Posted on Tuesday 19 July 2005

With so many recent stories about RFID being “the mark of the beast” I thought it might be worthwhile to highlight a non-sinister use of RFID for people.

VeriChip Corporation…a leading provider of security and identification technology, announced today that its “Hugs” RFID infant protection system has prevented the abduction of a baby at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.

On July 15, the Hugs system went into alarm when the infant was removed from the hospital’s seventh-floor nursery. Staff quickly responded to the “CODE PINK” alert, and security officials thwarted the abduction, recovered the infant unharmed and returned him to the safety of maternity ward staff.

You can read the rest of the release here, and look into how the Hugs system works here. (Not only can the Hugs system be set up to sound an alarm if a baby is improperly removed from a monitored area, but it can also be used to match mothers and infants while in the maternity ward. How can anybody complain about this?
