Cingular-ATTWS Integration Hits Home

Posted on Thursday 27 January 2005

cingular.jpgCertainly not earth-shattering nor unexpected, but my phone changed yesterday. See? There, where it used to say “AT&T Wireless” it now says “Cingular”. The billing changed a couple of months ago, and I’d been wondering how long it would take them to get around to changing the network banner.

Happened yesterday, while I was at lunch in Baltimore. When I left the house about 11 the phone said it was connected to AT&T’s GSM network. Frankly, I didn’t notice what it said when I arrived in Baltimore, but when I came out of the restaurant (at Mama’s On The Half Shell in Canton, home of the best seafood chowder you’ll taste in these parts) it reported that Cingular was my carrier. Stayed that way all the way home, and even came back up that way after a power cycle. The acquisition giveth (better coverage) and the acquisition taketh away.
