My old pals in the Mobitex world are probably pretty happy about the article in Electronics Weekly that was published today. A reasonably good survey of the current state of affairs, although it somehow managed to omit mentioning the recent sale of the largest Mobitex network. Nevertheless, good quotes from Andrew, Kevin, Dirk and a couple of guys from BT Redcare Transcomm.
But the lead is really awful: “Mobitex just refuses to lie down and die.” That story’s been told and retold so many times that it is no longer news. A class of average high school English students could have written a dozen better leads in 30 minutes, one supposes. Are there no decent editors at EW?
Apparently there are no fact-checkers, either. EW used a picture of a new BlackBerry 7100, based on GSM and GPRS, to illustrate its Mobitex story.
