RIM announced on Monday that it has developed a new BlackBerry handheld which uses 802.11b networks instead of wide area wireless data such as GPRS or Mobitex. The company said the new 7270 will support standard BlackBerry features including voice; the device will deliver voice over the WLAN link and integrate with the enterprise’s PBX. The 7270 is scheduled to begin field trials later this year and become commercially available next year.
