Cingular’s deal to sell its Mobitex network to Cerberus Capital has closed, and the newly independent company is now called Velocita Wireless. In an accompanying press release the company said it will focus on providing wireless data services to four key vertical markets (EFT-POS, telemetry, AVL and telematics, and field force automation), offering messaging and email services to mid-sized businesses and secure wireless data services to government entities.
Charles Nelson remains president of the company, headquartered in Woodbridge, NJ. Tom Langan has been named head of marketing and Rick Donnelly will continue to run the engineering side of the house.
Congratulations to all involved, and good luck.
