Verizon To Expand EV-DO Footprint

Posted on Friday 24 September 2004

Verizon said yesterday that it will expand its EV-DO service, already available in Washington, San Diego and Las Vegas, to 17 new markets starting next week. The company said it will switch on the data service in parts of Atlanta, Baltimore, Miami and New York, as well as in several major airports. Verizon said it expects to cover 75M POPs by the end of this year, and will spend US$1B to roll out the service between now and the end of 2005. Whether there are enough people willing to pay $80/month for the service remains to be seen.
