This Is Closer to Ericsson’s Core Mission

Posted on Monday 30 August 2004

Ericsson announced that it has landed a contract from Faroese Telecom to upgrade the existing GSM network to include both GPRS and EDGE. The Faroe Islands is an 18-island archipelago which lies northeast of Scotland and approximately halfway between Norway and Iceland. According to the tourist board the islands had a population of 48,100 in July of 2003.

I’m quite certain that the Faroe Islands are lovely, based on what I know of Scandinavia not to mention the pictures supplied by the tourist board. But the value of this contract must be about the same as the budget for Ericsson’s Bluetooth division – or maybe even smaller.
