McCaw To Reenter Wireless

Posted on Wednesday 2 June 2004

The Wall Street Journal reports today that Craig McCaw will announce a new wireless data service based on OFDM technology developed by NextNet, which McCaw acquired. According to the Journal the service will be launched in Jacksonville and St. Cloud, MN, initially with a wider rollout within 12 months of launch. The service will be positioned as a portable, not a mobile, service and will compete against DSL and cable Internet access services. McCaw’s company, Clearwire, has also been acquiring spectrum in Canada, Mexico, and Western Europe.
