Ericsson Sells Mobitex Infrastructure Business

Posted on Monday 24 May 2004

An investment group headed by the former CEO and finance director of the UK Mobitex operator has acquired the Mobitex infrastructure group from Ericsson, according to a press announcement released this morning. The commercial details of the deal were not announced, nor has Ericsson commented on the sale as of yet. The new organization, known as Mobitex Technology AB, already has an extensive Web site up and running.

Andrew Fitton, former CEO of Transcomm and past president of the Mobitex Operators Association, has been named CEO of the new company. Russell Backhouse, who was Transcomm’s finance director, is part of the investment group and will likely have a similar role with Mobitex Technology.
