The European Investment Bank has agreed to loan Investor AB SEK1.8B for Hi3G, the joint UMTS venture with Hutchison. According to the press release the funds will be used for “construction of a third generation UMTS mobile communication project in Sweden and Denmark”. One presumes that the loan will fund network expansion since 3 Sweden and 3 Denmark both already offer commercial UMTS services.
