mmO2 in Play

Posted on Wednesday 25 February 2004

mmO2’s CEO, Peter Erskine, called KPN’s failed bid to buy his company “the first offer a company made for mmO2″ but quickly added, “We’re not obsessed by the idea of selling this company.” In the same interview, published today in Die Welt, he seemed to invite interest. “If somebody makes a good offer, we’ll definitely have a close look at it,” he said.

NTT DoCoMo may be ready to oblige. According to the Financial Times DoCoMo’s CEO said that his company would be interested in talking if mmO2 would adopt iMode. “We are prepared to negotiate with any operator which will do i-mode,” said Keiji Tachikawa. DoCoMo would likely have to divest itself of its partial interest in 3 UK, which so far has not shown any interest in adopting iMode.
