RIM delay denied

Posted on Thursday 30 October 2003

RIM lost a minor court battle yesterday when the judge in the patent infringement case with NTP denied RIM’s request to delay moving forward with its appeal until the patents have been reexamined. A jury decided last November that RIM had infringed on several NTP patents and RIM appealed. In January the US Patent and Trademark Office said it would take the unusual step of reexamining NTP’s patents. RIM subsequently asked the court to delay the appeals process until the reexamination was complete. The judge ordered RIM to file its first brief for the appeal within 30 days.
