A small company in Massachusetts has developed a cellular base station that runs on a Linux box. The Vanu Software Radio was developed under a grant from the National Science Foundation and is currently being field tested by rural cellular operator in Texas. According to Vanu the basestation can be adapted to other airlink protocols.
