Nortel said it has been awarded a contract to install GPRS infrastructure by Brazilian GSM operator Claro Networks, a subsidiary of American Movil. Nortel’s press release did not specify broad availability or the commercial terms of the deal.
ThinkEquity Partners, a Canadian investment bank, said that RIM has signed BlackBerry technology licenses with both Motorola and Sony Ericsson. Nokia, High Tech Computer (HTC), Palm, Microsoft and Symbian have already licensed RIM’s technology under the company’s BlackBerry Connect program and are apparently working to add BlackBerry functions to some or all of their handsets.
